750ml Amarone della Valpolicella from Ca' Rugate.

Amarone della Valpolicella is a rich, dry Italian red wine from the Veneto region. It is produced primarily from the Corvina grape. Amarone is characterized by ripe, bold flavours. This bold wine is an intense red colour with bouquets of cherries, oak, and plum on the nose.  Smooth, velvety, and bold, this wine is accented with dark red fruits on the palate.

Pairs amazingly with red meats such as beef and lamb, gamey meats such as deer and venison, and blue cheese.

Ca'Rugate is one of the most Three Glasses awarded producers in Italy and is ranked by the New York Times among the 'top 5 producers of high end Soave'. The story of the estate begins when Amedeo Tessari, an Innkeeper owning a few plots of vines in Soave area, founded and developed the wine production in the early 1900s. Despite the difficult times of the two World Wars, the Tessari family kept developing and pioneering the Piemontese wine's expansion. The Estate was renamed Ca'Rugate in 1986, taking its name from the volcanic hills on which the vineyard are located. The Ca'Rugate vineyards now cover 58 hectares, 35 of which are located within the commune of Montecchiadi Crosara in Valpolicella.

This wine has a protected geographic designation label of DOCG, short for Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita, or “Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin.” Under Italian wine law DOCG is the highest designation of quality among Italian wines. The DOCG designation was created in 1980 in response to criticisms that there were too many DOCs and their quality was variable. DOCG wines, in contrast, were to be truly the best of what Italian wines could offer.
